12:30 - Prayer to the Four Directions
The Earth Day Festival would not be the same without the opening ceremony to the Four Directions. Daniel Llanes and Susana Almanza will conduct the traditional prayer to the Four Directions to bring blessing and intention to the Earth Day Festival. The ceremony is a contemporary manifestation of a traditional ceremony rooted in Mezo-American tradition that has been done in this area for over 1000 years. It is an honor and call to the elements, of which we are all a part.œ
12:45 Alfredo y Tortilla Factory
The 3-time Grammy-nominated Alfredo y Tortilla Factory is a Musical institution that began creating hits in 1973. Characterized by its progressive and eclectic style, Alfredo y Tortilla Factory's 13 piece-band fuses R&B, Latin Jazz, and Salsa punctuated by syncopated rhythms and a fiery horn section.
2:30 The Bishops
Sibling trio, The Bishops, consisting of vocalist Cara Bishop, producer/DJ Troy Bishop, and rapper Luv Bishop, bring a new wavy futuristic sound that is bound to change the boundaries and limitations of artist confinement to one genre. The Bishops provide a unique style of sounds consisting of various styles between electronic, hip-hop, jazz and pop that is bound to appeal to a mass audience, bringing a diverse crowd together.
3:30 - Flamencura Music & Dance Studio
Hailing from the southern region of Spain, the roots of flamenco go back hundreds of years and combined Spanish, Muslim, Jewish and Roma (Gypsy) influences, resulting in the exciting music and dance form we know today. Under the direction of Olivia Chacon, Flamencura is Austin’s very first dance studio dedicated to the Flamenco tradition, founded in 2010. Students from Flamencura will perform a set of Spanish flamenco dances, accompanied by live music from the Flamencura Music Ensemble. These fiery performers will get audiences shouting “Olé!”
4:30 Brave Combo
Trying to describe Brave Combo’s music requires a pretty extensive vocabulary – at least when it comes to musical styles. For the past three decades the Denton, Texas based quintet has perfected a world music mix that includes salsa, meringue, rock, cumbia, conjunto, polka, zydeco, classical, cha cha, the blues and more. They are America’s Premier Dance band and a rollicking, rocking, rhythmic global journey — offering what one critic recently wrote, “Even if you come for the party, you’ll leave with something of a musical education.”
6:00 - Drums of Tahiti Revue Tropical Productions
Under the direction of Keito Ka’awa St. James, join Tropical Productions, Inc. and the Drums of Tahiti Revue for traditional Hula dances, tropical drumming, and songs from the South Pacific and Hawaii’. Based in Austin for over 20 years, they also offer Hula classes in the Austin area!

Brigid Shea, co-MC of Earth Stage
Brigid came to Austin in 1988 to start the Texas chapter of Clean Water Action. Prior to that, she had been an award-winning journalist at NPR stations in Minnesota and Philadelphia. She served on the Austin city council 1993-1996 and championed consumer, electoral and environmental reforms. Shea is the co-founder of SOS, Austin’s historic law to save Barton Springs, has been an advisor to LCRA, Seton, the City of Austin, etc. and her carbon-reduction work with a client won the TCEQ Environmental Excellence award. She serves on many boards, including the national board of Clean Water Action. She is a 2001 graduate of Leadership Austin and is a member of the Chamber of Commerce Clean Energy Council. She was elected Travis County Commissioner in 2014. She is a native of North Dakota, has two sons and is married to John Umphress, Green Building specialist with Austin Energy.
