Special Features Schedule

9-12:00 - Bluebonnet Hill Restoration Project
Shift 1 Join us for a native habitat restoration project at Huston-Tillotson University for Earth Day! HT is the oldest university in Austin, with a rich legacy rooted in our east Austin campus and reflected in our engaged graduates and commitment to environmental justice. HT is proud to partner with Earth Day Austin for the second year in a row on a project that will both beautify campus and renew the environmental legacy of our historic university. Last year, volunteers installed a rain garden that addressed a drainage challenge on the eastern side of campus which incorporated native and pollinator-friendly plants. This, year, we are restoring a south facing hill that was known for a large part of HT's history as "Bluebonnet Hill." This project will remove the existing invasive grasses and reintroduce wildflowers and other Texas native plants to the south hill. Join us for garden installation on Earth Day April 21 at HT. If you are interested in being a team lead, please contact the organizer. Keep Austin Beautiful will provide all the supplies you need for successful projects. Please be sure to dress for the weather and wear comfortable clothing that you don't mind getting dirty. Please be sure to bring a full reusable water bottle to stay hydrated.
