Bike to Earth Day!

We can’t think of a better – or more fun – way to celebrate sustainability than using pedal power to get to this year’s Austin Earth Day Festival. Whether you’re new to bicycling or an experienced rider, this year Bike Austin is working to help you bike confidently and safely to and from the event.

Before the festival, we’ve compiled some helpful info and simple tips which will help you get to and from the event confidently and safely.

Plan Your Route: Knowing what route to take is a simple but important part of a safe, fun bike ride. The best route by car might not be the best by bicycle. We’ve created this easy-to-use Google map to help you find a safe way to and from Austin Earth Day.

1. Click on the map image.
2. Mueller Hangar is already set as the destination (“B”), so type in your starting address next to the “A” and click “GET DIRECTIONS”
3. Your route will be highlighted in the map, and you can view step-by-step directions by scrolling down on the left side
4. Write down, or print out your directions.

Other notes about finding a route:

• Since Mueller Hangar is located off of a busy street, we recommend using: Berkman Drive or 53rd/51st Streets if you’re coming from the North; Cherrywood Road if you’re coming from the South; Rogge Lane or Manor Road if you’re coming from the East; and Wilshire Blvd. if you’re coming from the West.

• As an alternative to the Google map check out the City of Austin’s Bike Map.
At the festival, we’ll be providing free, monitored, on-site bike parking! Just find the Bike Austin booth next to X and check in. Volunteers will walk you and your bike into a protected area on the north side of the hangar where the bike racks will be located. Bike Austin will have a work stand, air pump, and basic tool kit on hand so we can offer minor repair assistance to those in need. And while you’re at the Bike Austin tent you can pick up city and regional bike maps and get helpful information on bike routes, current and future bikeway projects, how to have a better bicycling experience, and how to get involved in making Austin a better place to bike. And for a little extra incentive, everyone who rides their bike to Earth Day and parks it with Bike Austin will get a $10 gift certificate to Whole Earth Provisions Company!
